Founded back in 2013 as a US Veteran-Owned business, 3D PrinterWorks is one of the Youngstown Business Incubator’s portfolio companies, located in the heart of the Ohio additive manufacturing hub in YBI’s fifth campus building, Tech Block Building 5. Father and son duo Tom and Ben Kilar run the business, and create 3D solutions using their expertise in manufacturing, engineering, and computer science to meet their customers’ needs, whether they’re entrepreneurs or manufacturers and engineers.

Four years ago, the company launched a Kickstarter campaign to get its CreatorBot 3D printer up and running. The 3D printer’s second iteration, the CreatorBot Pro, was later successfully released to high-profile customers such as the Department of Defense, NASA, and Lockheed Martin, and the company has grown a client base of both industry professionals and hobbyists.

Now, 3D PrinterWorks is entering the world of large-scale 3D printing and introducing a new machine – the versatile, industrial HT-5800.

3D PrinterWorks CEO and former US Marines mechanic Ben Kilar said, “Our team has worked endlessly on developing a professional grade 3D printer that’s extremely reliable and easy to use, and we feel confident the HT 5800 will outperform the competition. We listened to feedback from our customers and used high quality components to create a large-scale 3D printer that makes adopting the technology less intimidating for new customers.”

Ben has a computer science background and developed the programming for the HT-5800, while Tom, a certified Six Sigma Black Belt engineering professional, designed the mechanics and frames.

The HT-5800, weighing in at 320 lbs with an 18″ x 18″ x 18″ build volume, was designed to make high-precision, industrial FFF parts with engineering-grade materials, including ABS, nylon, PEEK, PETG, and polycarbonate. The large-scale 3D printer features filament detection, a high-temperature printing surface, and an enclosed build chamber, which enables consistent, professional prints through a controlled environment that lowers part warping and maximizes first layer adhesion.

Dual extruders allow users to 3D print complex geometries with breakaway support material, and it’s easy to choose the correct print surface for maximum part adhesion with the HT-5800’s easy to change build plates. Additionally, the 3D printer’s automated platform correction system will correctly calibrate and level the surface before each print gets started for consistent performance and quality.

Additional tech specs include:

  • High temperature hot ends
  • 160 – 600 micron resolution
  • Laptop with advanced interface
  • WiFi and Ethernet connectivity
  • 0.8 mm nozzle diameter

The user-friendly HT-5800 also has a lower cabinet, with a pull-out drawer for separate, enclosed compartments; one of these is for material currently in use, while the other holds filament and build surface storage.

3D PrinterWorks’ robust new system, built in the company’s Youngstown warehouse and quality tested before shipment, is targeted toward users in many manufacturing fields, such as aerospace and defense. With each purchase of the HT-5800, customers will receive a wheeled cabinet stand, a one-year limited warranty, full factory setup, and a two-day training and support session that covers topics such as basic maintenance and care, preparing models, and loading material.
